Scope and Contents
The collection contains World Congress of Free Ukrainians (Svitovyi Kongres Vil'nykh Ukraintsiv - SKVU) correspondence, bylaws, reports, memoranda and programs, mailings, and application forms for attendance at the 1967 inaugural Congress. The materials also include resolutions and memoranda of the World Conference of Ukrainian Students (Soiuz Ukraïns'koho Studentstva (TsESUS) as well as newsletters, press releases, and other small publications of Ukrainian diaspora organizations (1938-1970).

Biographical / Historical
The World Congress of Free Ukrainians (Svitovyi Kongres Vil'nykh Ukraintsiv - SKVU), an association of Ukrainian community organizations in the diaspora, was established in 1967 in New York with the purpose of assisting the Ukrainian people in their struggle for independence and coordinating the activities of its member organizations. The SKVU's members include the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (Ukrains'kyi Kongresovyi Komitet Ameryky - UKKA) (United States); the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (Kongres Ukraintsiv Kanady - KUK) (Canada); the Coordinating Center of Ukrainian Central Community Organizations (Koordynatsiinyi Oseredok Ukrains'kykh Hromads'kykh Tsentral'nykh Ustanov) (Europe); the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Australia (Soiuz Ukrains'kykh Orhanizatsii Avstralii); the Ukrainian Central Representation of Argentina (Ukrains'ka Tsentral'na Reprezentatsiia Arhentiny); and the Coordinating Committee of Ukrainian Organizations of Brazil (Koordynatsiinyi Komitet Ukrains'kykh Orhanizatsii Brazylii). Representatives of the Ukrainian churches, the World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations (Svitova Federatsiia Ukrains'kykh Zhinochykh Orhanizatsii; SFUZhO), and Soiuz Ukraïns'koho Studentstva (TsESUS) actively participated in the work of the SKVU Congresses. The First inaugural congress happened in 1967, and the Second in 1973.
