The Ukrainian Art and Literary Club (Український Літературно-Мистецький Клюб) was founded in 1949 in Manhattan, New York by the sculptor Serhii Lytvynenko, who was also its first president. The Club’s headquarters were at 10th St. and 2nd Ave. The Club organized gatherings of artists, sculptors, musicians, dancers, poets, and writers. They held weekly literary meetings, poetry readings and lectures which served as a gathering place for the Ukrainian-American intellectual community of New York. The Club also sponsored numerous art exhibits. One of its active leaders was Stepan Kryzhanivs’kyi, theater director and actor who immigrated from Austria.
