Scope and Contents
The collection documents the activities of the Ukrainian Free University (UVU/UFU) and the Society of Supporters of the Ukrainian Free University. It includes communications, reports, correspondence, and bulletins from the UVU, as well as documents pertaining to the UVU Delegation to America. Materials from the Society of Supporters of the Ukrainian Free University are also present, comprising correspondence, meeting minutes, bulletins, reports, questionnaires, and miscellaneous items.

Biographical / Historical
Ukrainian Free University (Ukrains'kyi Vil'nyi Universytet, UVU/UFU) was founded on January 17, 1921, in Vienna, Austria, through the efforts of the Union of Ukrainian Journalists and Writers Abroad, the Sociological Institute, and the Society of Friends of Education in Vienna. The university was later transferred to Prague and operated there until 1945, when the Soviet Army occupied Prague in May. At the initiative of Volodymyr Shcherbakivskyi, the Ukrainian Free University was reestablished in Munich, where it continues to operate today.
In the United States and Canada, the Society of Supporters of the Ukrainian Free University was active from 1951 to 1986. Its purpose was to promote membership in the University and to support the recruitment of its faculty.

Description Control
The title of this collection was changed from "Ukrainian Free University papers" to "Society of Supporters of the Ukrainian Free University records" by Michael Andrec in 2023. In 2026, the title was changed to "Ukrainian Free University and Society of Supporters of the Ukrainian Free University records" by Anastasiia Denysenko.
