Biographical / Historical

Ivan Kedryn (pseudonym of Ivan Rudnytsky) was a journalist and political figure in Galicia, a member of the Central Committee of the Ukrainian National Democratic Alliance (UNDO), and a long-time secretary of the Society of Writers and Journalists in Lviv. From 1920 to 1922, he worked for the journal "Volya" in Vienna, and from 1922 to 1939, he was a co-editor of "Dilo," serving as its political editor from 1937 to 1939. Between 1925 and 1931, he was a correspondent and advisor for the Ukrainian Parliamentary Representation in Warsaw. In exile, he was the head of the Ukrainian Central Relief Organization in Austria (1946-1949). He then moved to the United States, where he became an editor for the daily newspaper "Svoboda." In the 1950s, he was active in the Ukrains'kyi Natsional'nyi-Derzhavnyi Soiuz, and in the 1970s, he was active in and chaired the Ukrains'ka Natsional'na Rada. Some of Ivan Kedryn's significant works include "Beresteis'kyi myr" (1928) and "Prychyny upadku Pol'shchi" (1940, under the pseudonym Homopoliticus). He was the editor of several book publications and almanacs, including the history of the Sich Riflemen "Zoloti vorota", and authored numerous articles in the Ukrainian, Polish, and German press.
