Biographical / Historical

V. Mokryi (b. 1949, Drava, Ol’shtyn County, Poland) is a historian, educator, and researcher of Ukrainian literature. His family was forcibly displaced from the Peremyshl’ area two years prior to his birth. Mokryi graduated with a degree in history from the University of Kraków, where he later served as a lecturer and researcher in Ukrainian literature. In 1987, he was awarded the Pope John Paul II Award, which he used to establish a foundation supporting the development of Ukrainian Christian culture and fostering Ukrainian-Polish relations. A member of the independent trade union Solidarnosc, Mokryi was elected as a deputy to the Polish Parliament in 1990.
