Scope and Contents

This collection contains the papers of Anatol' Iablons'kyi, including correspondence (1959-1984), original photographs with captions that had been prepared for publication (1930-1954 and undated), newspaper clippings (1954-1966), and photographs of artworks and designs.

Biographical / Historical

Anatol' Iablons'kyi was a Ukrainian artist and iconographer. Originally from Kyiv, he studied in L'viv and Paris (with the financial support of Metropolitan A. Sheptyts'kyi). He was a member of the Association of Independent Ukrainian Artists and the Splika obrazotvorchykh mysttsiv. He is known for his iconography and church decoration of the Studite churches in L'viv and Uhniv and that of the church of the Basilian Sisters in L'viv. He also executed two large paintings for the meeting room of the Congregation for the Eastern Rites in the Vatican, as well as iconostases in 18 churches in Galicia and beyond (including the metropolitan chapel in L'viv, Yakhtoriv, Staryi Brody, Kalush, and Volodymyrtsi). He collaborated with P. Kovzhun and M. Osinchuk. A postwar refugee in Germany, in 1950 he settled in Paris.
