Scope and Contents

The collection documents the administrative, cultural, and social life of the "Orlyk" Displaced Persons Camp at Berchtesgaden, West Germany, from 1945 to 1950. Records include incoming and outgoing correspondence with camp residents, local organizations, and the American military administration; administrative and financial records such as payroll lists, budgets, and receipts; and minutes, bylaws, communiqués, radio scripts, and reports from the Camp Council, Health and Social Services, the Committee for Law and Order, and the League of Ukrainian Veterans.

The collection also contains materials documenting the cultural and educational life of the camp community, including theater programs and broadsides, school programs, and records of the Central Representation of the Ukrainian Immigration Cultural and Educational Division and the Ukrainian literary and artistic organization Mystet'skyi Ukrainiskyi Rukh (MUR). Also present are two local periodicals: the Information Service Bulletin and "Orlyk" magazine (1946–1948). Additional materials document immigration assistance efforts, including records of the Aid to Ukrainian Students Committee (KODUS).
