Scope and Contents

This collection contains holograph musical scores by Antin Rudnyts'kyi, including sketches and drafts of the operas "Kniahynia Ol'ha" and "Anna Iaroslavna", as well as works for solo piano, chamber works, works for voice and piano and chorus and orchestra, and other compositions. In addition to notated music, it also contains correspondence and writings about music.

Biographical / Historical

Antin Rudnyts'kyi was a Ukrainian and Ukrainian American composer, pianist and conductor. Born in the Sambir region of Ukraine in 1902, he graduated from the L'viv Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. He was a conductor at opera houses in Kharkiv and Kyiv, and later led orchestras in Lviv, Warsaw, and Kovno. He also taught at music schools in Kharkiv, Kyiv, L'viv, and Philadelphia. He lived in the United States since 1939. Rudnytsky's main large-scale works are the operas "Dovbush" (1938), "Anna Iaroslavna" (1967), and "Kniahynia Ol'ha" (1968), as well as symphonic and ballet works. He was a full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society since 1962.
