Scope and Contents
Collection documents the history of the Rohatyn region of Ukraine and the activities of the Central Committee "Rohatynshchyna" (New York - Paris - Sydney - Toronto), an organization that coordinated the research, compilation, and publication of Rohatyn: The Town and Its Region, Western Ukraine, Collection of Historical and Ethnographic Articles, Memoirs and Other Materials, published as volume 54 of the Ukrainian Archives series by the Shevchenko Scientific Society.
Materials relate primarily to the editorial and organizational work surrounding this publication. Materials include extensive correspondence with organizations, scholars, and public figures, notably between Committee chairman Oleh Kudryk and members and affiliates across North America, Europe, and Australia, including Stefan Skrobach, Osyp Kravcheniuk, and Roman Krupka, among others. Also present are manuscripts and typescripts, many with handwritten or editorial corrections; notes and notebooks; biographical materials and memoirs of personalities from the Rohatyn region; minutes of Committee meetings and congresses; and financial and official documents, including an agreement between the Central Committee "Rohatynshchyna" and editor Uliana Liubovych regarding publication of the collection.
Printed materials include published books and journals, newspaper clippings, reviews, photocopies of historical articles and documentary publications from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, report of the Pedagogical Society in Rohatyn (1923-1924), and issues of the magazine Universum (1993–1994) and periodical "Rohatynec" (1924). Also present are photographic prints and negatives, maps, postcards, greeting cards, seals, programs of commemorative events, envelopes with postage stamps, and geographic and name indexes for the publication. In addition, the collection contains a copy of a sketch for the monument to the Sich Riflemen by Roman Hrytsai, materials relating to charitable contributions for the construction of the monument to the Fighters for the Freedom of Ukraine in Rohatyn, and a floppy disk.
