Scope and Contents
The overwhelming majority of this collection consists of published and near-print books, articles, periodicals, textbooks, dictionaries, and maps. Many of these are from the 1946-1948 period, and include some rather unusual items, such as a Ukrainian-German dictionary of industrial and technical terms intended for Ostarbeiter. The collection also contains a limited amount of correspondence, writings, personal documents and ID cards, family history and genealogy materials, concert programs and ephemera, and a photo portrait of Hladyshovs'kyi. Also included are sympathy cards and correspondence, funeral records, and obituaries for Hladyshovs'kyi.

Biographical / Historical
Oleksander Hladyshovs'kyi (Олександр Гладишовський, also spelled Alexander Gladyshovsky) was a Ukrainian and Ukrainian American political and public figure. Born in Ternopil in 1888, he graduated from the L'viv Polytechnic. In 1916 he was taken as a prisoner of war by the Russian Empire. In the summer of 1917 he moved to Kyiv, where he worked in the Ministries of Trade and Industry, and later in the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Ukrainian People's Republic. He was the first secretary of the UPR embassies in Switzerland (from 1918) and Denmark (1919-1921). In 1921 he returned to Ternopil and was active in “Prosvita” and other Ukrainian organizations. He was director of the office of the Ukrains'koho Natsional'no-Demokratychnoho Obiednannia in Lviv and from 1935 a member of its Central Committee. In 1944 he fled as a refugee to Germany, then to the United States, where he lived in New York City. He died in 1966.
