Scope and Contents

This collection is composed of the papers of Lev Maistrenko, including his writings, memoirs, personal and professional correspondence, photographs and slides, address and notebooks, and other ephemera. There is a great deal of textual material written by others (including on microfilm), a significant amount of which are on architecture, including books with inscriptions, articles, and clippings. Along with L. Maistrenko’s biography and autobiography, the collection also includes materials related to his father Ivan Maistrenko, such as clippings, articles, and sketches. Additionally, there are materials related to Zinovii Shtokalko, including correspondence, music recordings, a death mask, and a portrait on metal with a pipe. Finally, there are slides and slide equipment, and a large amount of audio-visual materials, including cassette tapes, open reel audiotapes, and DAT tapes. Audio-visual materials include recordings of Shtokalko’s bandura playing,local NY and NJ events, audio letters between Lev Maistrenko and his family (especially his father, Ivan Maistrenko), recorded conversations with cultural figures, oral history, off-air Ukrainian radio recordings, and more.
