This collection contains correspondence, photocopies of articles from the Anniversary Album of the Association of Ukrainian Lawyers (1934), and bylaws of the Ukrainian Lawyers Association of America.

Biographical / Historical

Stepan Horak was a historian and bibliographer. He was born on 23 October 1920 in Horodok, Halychyna and died 20 December 1986 in Charlston, Illinois. He was a graduate of the universities of Erlangen (PhD 1949), Bonn, and Michigan, and full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. From 1965 he was professor of Russian and modern European History of Eastern Illinois University. Among his monographs were "Ukraine in der internationalen Politik, 1917-1953" (1957), "Poland and Her National Minorities, 1919-1939: A Case Study" (1961), and "Poland’s International Affairs, 1919-1960" (1964). Bibliographic guides that he edited or compiled include "Russia, the USSR and Eastern Europe: A Bibliographic Guide to English-Language Publications" (2 vols. 1978, 1982), "Guide to the Study of the Soviet Nationalities: Non-Russian Peoples of the USSR" (1982), and "The Soviet Union and Eastern Union: A Bibliographic Guide" (1985). He was editor of the journal "Nationalities Papers" (1972-1985) and was president of the Association for the Study of the Nationalities of the USSR and Eastern Europe (1973).
