Scope and Contents
The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, short stories, memoirs, diaries, articles, essays, translations, and personal materials of Sofiia Parfanovych. There are also files related to the Iuvileinyi komitet dlia vidznachennia stolittia NTSh, and various materials.

Biographical / Historical
Sofiia Parfanovych (1898-1968), Ukrainian medical doctor, writer, and civil activist, was born in the city of L'viv. After graduating from a gymnasium, she continued her education at a medical university in L'viv and finished her studies in Prague in 1926. In the years 1925-1944, she worked at the Narodna Lichnytsia and gynecological hospital in L'viv. In 1940-1941, she was in charge of the nursing school. In 1944, she immigrated first to Austria, and then to Germany, where she worked in the women's department at the hospital in Augsburg. In 1949, she moved to the United States, where she worked as a gynecologist in Detroit and continued her writerly career. Parfanovych is an author of such nonfiction books as Cholovik ta zhinka – stateva hihiiena (1923), Ovochi, iaryna ta bezalkohol'ni napytky (1932), Pravyl'na vidzhyva (1936), Velyka hihiiena zhinky (1939) as well as such fiction books Tsina zhyttia (1936), Zahorila polonyna (1948), Inshi dni (1948), U lisnychivtsi (1954), Liubliu dibrovu (1964), Charivna dibrova (1959), Virnyi pryiatel' (1961), Na skhreshchenykh dorohakh (1963), Takyi vin buv (1964), Katrus' i my (1966). Parfanovych was an active member of Ukrains'ke Hihiienichne Tovarystvo and the anti-alcohol society "Vidrodzhennia", and an editor-in-chief of the journal Vidrodzhennia (1928-1937), full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, member of Ukrains'ke Likars'ke Tovarystvo, member of the executive board of Soiuz Ukrainok in L'viv, member of the executive board of the Ob'iednannia Ukrains'kykh Zhinok in Germany, member of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America.
