Jaroslaw Pelensky papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of the papers of Jaroslaw Pelensky and his family, particularly his wife Christina/Khyrstyna Pelenska. Personal materials include photographic prints and slides, marriage and naturalization documents, passports, correspondence, family death certificates and funeral records, Jaroslaws’ will and obituary, degrees, memberships, CVs and biographies, and more. Materials related to Khyrstyna specifically include her manuscripts, edits, publication and copyright documents, and correspondence for her books "Mazepa: Image of Mazepa in French Romantic Art" and "Chasseriau's Mazepa: A reflection of the Romantic Elegy." There are also materials related to Lypyns’kyi, such as his writings, correspondence (including copies of letters from Sheptytskyi to Lypyns’kyi), and Lypyns’kyi Institute materials, such as agreements for transferring artworks. There is a significant amount of printed material, including bound issues of “Ukrains'ka literaturna hazeta” and “Suchasna Ukraina,” with some inscribed to Pelensky by Stakhiv, newspaper clippings, articles, and photocopies. Further, the collection contains conference and exhibition materials, organizational and financial records for both the Eastern European Research Institute (EERI) and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine’s Institute for European Studies (IED NAN). Non-textual materials include artworks, photographs of artworks, and floppy discs. Finally, the collection contains Pelensky’s autobiography, photocopies of "Essays in Honor of Jaroslaw Pelenski", and materials related to the death of Ken Cmiel.
