Mykola Haliv papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials documenting the personal, community, and professional activities of Mykola Haliv. Haliv was particularly involved with the "Patriarchal Movement", which began in the 1960s as an effort by Ukrainian Catholics to elevate Josyf Slipyi from Major Archbishop to Patriarch and grant the Ukrainian Catholic Church additional jurisdictional autonomy. This collection contains significant quantities of materials related to that movement, including records of the periodical "Patriarkhat" (correspondence, editorial records), records of the "Svitove Tovarystvo za Patriarkhal'nyi Ustrii Ukrains'koi Katolyts'koi Tserkvy" ("Society for the Patriarchal System in the Ukrainian Catholic Church" -- minutes, newsletters, notices, correspondence), and other affiliated organizations (records include membership lists, minutes, financials, newsletters/ephemera). It also has research materials on Slipyi that includes clippings, writings, and correspondence.
The collection also contains organizational records of a variety of Ukrainian diaspora political, educational, religious, and social organizations, including the Ukrains'ka Holovna Vyzvol'na Rada (Ukrainian Supreme Liberation Council -- correspondence, bylaws, financials, and membership lists), the Foundation of the Friends of the Encyclopedia of Ukraine, OUN za kordonom, UNRada, the Ukrainian Technical-Husbandry Institute (Ukrains'kyi Tekhnichno-Hospodars'kyi Instytut -- including meeting minutes, course records, and submitted theses), the Ukrainian Free University (course records), St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church in New York (correspondence, minutes, event information and materials, clippings, and photographs), records related to his work with the Entsyklopedia Ukrains'koi Diaspory (Encyclopedia of the Ukrainian Diaspora), and DP era publications.
There is also significant quantities of Haliv's personal and professional correspondence, as well as lesser quantities of newspaper clippings, writings and speeches by Haliv and others, photographs, greeting cards, event programs and memorabilia, ephemera, a family reunion book, resumes and examples of engineering work, conference and travel records, and publication records. The collection also has material related to Ukrainian community events, such as fundraising events for the Ukrainian Catholic University, which include programs, ephemera, invitations, donor, and attendence lists, seating charts, and correspondence, as well as other event records and ephemera.
Also present are materials of Zirka Haliv, including records of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America and her personal correspondence and newspaper articles.
