Biographical / Historical

Iuliian Sheparovych was from the village of Kolodiivka (today in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, Ukraine). He graduated from the gimnasium in Stanislaviv and Lviv University. He was an “otaman” of the Ukrainian Galician Army, was commander of the 3rd Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Berezhany Brigade of the 2nd UGA Corps. In the Ukrainian People’s Republic Army, he was the commander of the “Zaporozhets” armored train. He participated in the liberation of Galicia from the Bolsheviks in August-September 1920. In the battle near Dzhuryn station, the “Zaporozhets” defeated the Bolshevik armored train "Korshun" in September 1920. After the war, he was the founder and first director of the Cooperative Union in Stanislaviv. From 1925, he worked in the directorate of the Central Union, and was its director from 1930. For some time he was the head of the veteran’s organization “Moloda Hromada” in Lviv. He worked in Roman Shukhevych's advertising agency Fama. In 1940-1944, as a representative to the German "Farmers' Central" in the General Government, he defended the interests of the Ukrainian peasantry and cooperatives.
