Larissa Onyshkevych papers

This collection documents the professional activities and personal life of Larissa Maria Lubov Zaleska Onyshkevych. Personal records are composed of correspondence, documents, postcards, illustrations, and photographs. Professional records document Onyshkevych's activities as a scholar of modern Ukrainian drama and literature and include correspondence, writings, edits and drafts, book reviews, presentations, a bibliographical index of publications, and materials related to the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in the USA, Lviv V. Stefanyk Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Plast and Stezhky Kul'tury/Cтежки Kультури. Extensive correspondence includes such addressees as Kutsiuk, Andievs'ka, Slovo, Barka, Riabchuk, Rubchak, Shkandrij, Shevchuk, Skoczylas, Sorokovskyi, Stech, Stefanowska, Szporluk, Tarnawsky, Wakulenko, Wanner, Rudnytzky, Senkus, and many others. There are also Suchasnist records, such as writings, notebooks, and correspondence, from Onyshkevych’s tenure as editor of the literature section. Additionally, the collection contains Shevchenko Scientific Society in the US materials from Onyshkevych’s presidency, including pamphlets, correspondence, writings, programs, newsletters, minutes, correspondence, clippings, documents, and reports. The collection also covers materials related to the published books Contemporary Ukraine on the Cultural Map of Europe (flyers, publishing agreements, proposals, drafts and edits, maps, correspondence) and Kontrasty (correspondence, graphics, writings, drafts, sheet music, poetry).

A large portion of the collection consists of research files and other materials collected by Onyshkevych and includes clippings, published materials, conference materials, notes, photographs, and writings by self and others. Covered topics include, but are not limited to, artistic and musical life in the diaspora, Ukrainian Jewish relations, Holodomor, Ukrainian modern theatre, poetry, film, Ukrainian women, relationship between the EU and Ukraine, Ukrainian language/linguistics, dissidents, Ukrainian-Russian relations, Ukrainian drama in Canada, various authors and cultural figures. Finally, the collection contains cassette tapes and VHS tapes of events and plays.
