Orest Popovych papers

The collection contains personal and professional materials of Orest Popovych. A large portion of the collection consists of newspaper clippings and articles collected by Popovych on various topics, such as Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh-A) activities, chemistry, Ukrainian sports, and chess activities of Popovych. Personal materials contain documents, genealogical materials, and photographs. Professional materials include correspondence with Ukrainian and American organizations and public and political figures, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the editor of the magazines "Krymska svitlytsia" and Krym sportu" (Simferopol) Hryhoriy Rudnytskyi about Orest Popovych's publications on the history of sports and chess tournaments, and with Ukrainian chess historian Yurii Semenko. There are also several notebooks with Popovych's notes on his work as the President of the NTSh-A, and photographs documenting NTSh-A programs, meetings with scientists and public figures, and photos from international chess competitions. Professional materials also contain Popovych's English translations of Ukrainian poetry by Vasyl Makhno for the books "Thread" and "Winter Letters."
