Biographical / Historical

Olena Gerdan-Zaklynska (1916-1999) was a Ukrainian ballet dancer, dance instructor, and poet. Born in the Hutsulshchyna region, she studied dance in Lviv and Vienna before immigrating to Australia, where she established her own dance school. In 1948, she relocated to Toronto and later moved to the United States, continuing her work in dance education. Gerdan-Zaklynska was also a published poet, authoring the collection Rytmy polonyn (Rhythms of the Highlands). Details about her later life remain unclear.
