The collection consists primarily of personal photographs of Valentyna Kalyn-Mahmet. Additional materials include a genealogical family tree, identification cards, clippings, and obituary.

Biographical / Historical
Valentyna Kalyn-Mahmet (1919-1987) was an actress, singer, reciter. Her father Volodymyr Kalyn was an actor under L. Kurbas in Kyiv and her maternal grandmother was the well-known actress Hanna Borysohlibs'ka. Losing her parents in childhood, she moved to Ternopil to live with her grandfather, I. Kalyn. There she studied at the "Ridna Shkola" gymnasium (1932–35) and at the branch of the Ukrainian Music Institute. She performed at the Lesia Ukrainka Lviv Ukrainian Theater and at the Opera Theater under the direction of V. Blavats'kyi, and later, in emigration, at the Iosyp Hirniak's Theater-Studio. After the dissolution of I. Hirniak's Ukrainian Theater in America, she joined Yu. Kononiv's Ensemble of Light-Genre Actors in Newark, where she performed as part of a vocal duet and gave recitations.
